Meservey approves fire department budget, annual apportionment; mayor makes appointments

The Meservey City Council approved the fire department's budget and set an annual apportionment during its Jan. 12 meeting.
Fire Department Chief Jordan White presented a budget that outlined expenses, township contributions, grants and the department's coverage area. Council member Cyneva Myers moved to provide the fire department an annual apportionment of $16,000; Mike Gobeli seconded the motion and it was approved. Council member Jennifer Burke moved to approve the fire department budget with an estimated $10,000 in grant income included; Mike McNutt seconded and the council approved the budget.
Also on departmental business, the water/sewer report noted resident complaints about rusty water and that one hydrant had been flushed recently; the minutes state it is "not the best time of year for flushing hydrants." Jennifer Burke presented estimates for maintenance equipment and the council decided to purchase a 300-amp mobile battery charger from Menards and to have spare keys made for a new door lock.
Mayor Richard Miller appointed Pat White as mayor pro tem and named Mike McNutt to serve on the Landfill Board with Cyneva Myers as an alternate. The council adjourned the meeting and scheduled its next regular session for Feb. 9, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.
