Council approves routine contracts, seeks GDOT resurfacing funds and honors retiring sergeant

At the May meeting council approved several routine administrative items and a grant application for road resurfacing.
The council renewed the annual mowing and landscaping contract with City Green Services for $44,886.84 (general fund) to maintain parks, the walking trail, Barnhart Circle, Stable 41 and the Welcome Center. The purchase of signage for the Honeycutt Parks and Recreation office from Victory Sign Industries for $6,078 (general fund) was approved to match previously adopted branding.
Staff also recommended applying to the Georgia Department of Transportation for Local Road Assistance funding; GDOT allocated $148,058 in additional LRA funds for FY2026 and the Public Works Department proposed resurfacing (including Century Station Drive) if the application is approved. The application deadline is June 15 and the grant requires no city match; staff anticipate bidding in summer and paving in fall if funded.
Separately the council approved retiring and transferring a Glock from city inventory to Sergeant Robert Brown in recognition of his service; a replacement firearm will be purchased for $777 from the general fund. Sergeant Brown’s retirement date was noted as May 31; the council and staff presented remarks of appreciation.
