Melbourne council hires public works superintendent, approves liquor license pending insurance and several permits

At its Nov. 11 meeting the Melbourne City Council unanimously hired Doug Beadle as Public Works Superintendent (Resolution 24-11-02), approved a liquor license for the Melbourne Pub pending dram insurance, authorized hauler permits for two firms, and approved sewer inspection and debt setoff procedures. Two residents were appointed to the library board.
The Melbourne City Council on Nov. 11 approved a slate of personnel, permits and administrative procedures, including a new public works superintendent and a liquor license conditioned on dram insurance.
Council member Beth Smith moved to hire Doug Beadle as the city’s Public Works Superintendent and to approve Resolution 24-11-02; Councilman Lucas Hauser seconded the motion and the council voted all ayes. The hire was the primary personnel item in new business.
Tracey Beals, owner of the Melbourne Pub, told the council she purchased the adjacent building to use for pool tournaments and plans to use the rear entrance; there are no current plans to connect the two buildings. Council members asked about supervision in the second building. Councilman Hauser moved and Gaege Bracy seconded approval of the liquor license, contingent on the city receiving dram insurance; the motion passed on a unanimous voice vote.
The council also approved hauler permits for LeGrand Sanitation and Prairie Waste Solutions after Hauser moved and Beth Opperman seconded approval. A proposal from Visu Sewer to inspect and clean sewer lines on Ketchum, Hooper and 4th Street was approved with the intent to complete inspections ahead of planned paving; Beth Smith moved and Lucas Hauser seconded that motion.
City Clerk Pothast read the procedure to submit delinquent debt to the Department of Revenue Setoff program; Hauser moved and Bracy seconded approval, and the council voted all ayes. Clerk Pothast also distributed written complaints received at City Hall along with tentative responses; the council reported no issues.
On appointments, the council appointed Jayden Chaplin and reappointed Annette Lanning to the library board (mover: Beth Smith; second: Lucas Hauser). The meeting adjourned at 7:22 p.m.
