Melbourne council approves budget amendment to fund pool heater, street and water projects

The Melbourne City Council on Nov. 11 approved a budget amendment (Resolution 24-11-01) to cover a set of capital and program expenses, the council said.
City Clerk Pothast outlined the items added to the amended budget: a pool heater paid from Local Option Sales Tax savings; street and water improvements paid with federal ARPA funds; sewer lining to be paid from the city’s fund balance; replacement of a water radio from the water fund balance; and library programming supported by grant funds. The amendment, Pothast said, will be submitted to the Department of Management.
The amendment was approved after a public hearing opened by Councilman Lucas Hauser. Council member Gaege Bracy moved to close the hearing and then moved approval of the amendment; Council member Beth Smith seconded both motions. The council recorded a roll-call vote of all ayes.
The budget change directs existing local savings and specific grant or ARPA monies toward the listed projects; council members did not identify additional tax increases or new revenue sources during the meeting. Detailed line-item changes were presented by the clerk at the hearing.
The council’s next procedural step is submission of the adopted amendment to the Department of Management for filing, as required.
