North Butler board adopts student handbooks, device policy and cybersecurity plan; sets weather make‑up options for teachers

At its Aug. 20, 2024 regular meeting in the Greene School Media Center, the North Butler Community School District Board of Education approved several student and operational policies, including handbooks, a device use agreement and a cybersecurity response plan.
The board approved the 4‑year‑old Preschool, Elementary and Junior/Senior High student handbooks as presented; that motion was moved by Heather Shook, seconded by Ty Crawford‑Miller, and carried unanimously.
The board adopted three weather‑related make‑up options for teachers after cancelled school days: (1) complete required work on the AEA Learning Management System; (2) take a no‑pay day; or (3) use a personal day. The board recorded that the chosen option can be changed back at any time. The motion was moved by Heather Shook, seconded by Ty Crawford‑Miller, and carried unanimously.
The student device proper use agreement was approved (motion moved by Jordan Nolz, seconded by Ty Crawford‑Miller) and the board also approved a cybersecurity incident response plan (motion moved by Heather Shook, seconded by Jordan Nolz); both motions carried unanimously.
All policy approvals were recorded as carried unanimously in the minutes. The board adjourned at 6:49 p.m.; the next regular meeting was tentatively scheduled for Sept. 9, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. in Allison.
