North Butler board approves August finances, personnel hires and FFA trips; tables special-education deficit

Board President Laurie Shultz called the North Butler Community School Board to order at 6:01 p.m. Sept. 9 in the Greene School Media Center.
The board approved the meeting agenda after a motion from Board member Amanda Lund and a second from Board member Ty Crawford-Miller. The board then approved the minutes of its Aug. 20, 2024 meeting on a motion from Board member Jordan Nolz, seconded by Crawford-Miller.
On financial matters, Board member Jordan Nolz moved and Amanda Lund seconded approval of the August 2024 financial reports and the September 2024 bill listing. The motion carried unanimously.
The board approved several personnel recommendations. Board member Ty Crawford-Miller moved, with Jordan Nolz seconding, to hire Dixie Hughes as an associate at $14 per hour and Marietta McCormick as a custodian at $17 per hour; to accept the resignation of Rhonda Miller (associate); and to appoint Shelli Benson as a substitute associate. The motion passed unanimously.
Agenda Item 7, listed as "SBRC Special Education Deficit FY24," was tabled. The record notes the item was tabled but does not include a motion text, mover/second, or vote tally beyond the notation that it was tabled.
The board approved FFA-related items. Crawford-Miller moved and Nolz seconded approval of an FFA national convention trip to Indianapolis, Indiana, and participation in the Iowa FFA State Leadership Conference; the board carried the motion unanimously. Later, Nolz moved and Crawford-Miller seconded approval of an FFA fundraiser, which also passed unanimously.
Board member Ty Crawford-Miller moved to adjourn, Jordan Nolz seconded, and the board adjourned at 7:01 p.m. The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Oct. 14, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. in the Greene Media Center.
Actions recorded in the minutes included unanimous approvals for routine agenda, minutes, financial reports and bills, personnel hires and FFA travel/fundraising; one item (SBRC Special Education Deficit FY24) was tabled for later consideration.
