North Butler board adopts resolution to call March 4, 2025, election on continuing PPEL levy

The North Butler Community School District Board of Education voted unanimously Nov. 11 to adopt a resolution calling an election on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, that would continue a voter‑approved physical plant and equipment (PPEL) property tax levy for 10 years.
The levy authorized on the ballot would allow the district to collect up to $1.34 per $1,000 of assessed valuation beginning with the levy for collection in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026. The resolution specifies a range of permissible uses, including purchasing and improving grounds, constructing or repairing school buildings, acquiring technology and equipment, energy conservation measures, and purchasing transportation equipment.
Director Jordan Nolz introduced the resolution and Director Heather Shook seconded it. A roll call vote recorded ayes from Nolz, President Laurie Shultz, Amanda Lund, Heather Shook and Ty Crawford‑Miller; there were no nays. The president declared the resolution adopted.
The board named Butler County as the controlling county for the election and directed the county commissioners of elections to prepare ballots, appoint election boards and publish notice in accordance with Iowa law. The secretary of the board was directed to file a certified copy of the resolution with the controlling county; the resolution also includes a requirement that the ballot measure be submitted to the Butler County Commissioner of Elections at least 46 days before the March 4 election.
The ballot question presented in the resolution lists the specific purposes that levy proceeds may fund, and the resolution notes that all election materials and notice will be prepared under Iowa Code requirements. The board set no additional local conditions in its resolution.
The board conducted other routine business at the Nov. 11 meeting, including approvals of budget-review applications and personnel assignments; it approved a snow‑removal contract before adjourning at 7:25 p.m.
