Sheriff Thomas Fleming updated the board on recent public‑safety events and community outreach. He said deputies assisted the state highway patrol at a “double fatality on Route 40” involving a wrong‑way driver near the airport in Springboro and described the scene as “quite a scene.”
“Shame that both of those lost their lives,” Fleming said, noting the crash required the crash team and road closures and that the response could take significant time to clear.
Fleming also reported the county’s junior deputy academy ended last week with “over 50” youth participants. He said multiple agencies supported the academy to instruct young people about law‑enforcement careers and related subjects and that the event was well received by the community.
The sheriff had no other business for the board at the time of his report and the commissioners acknowledged the update.
