Incubator house opens for business coaching; UW‑Extension and tourism reports highlight local activity

The Economic Development Corporation reported that an incubator house, funded by the THRIVE grant, will be open to the public for business coaching on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4–6 p.m. The EDC also announced an open house for Timber Green Services on July 18 (5–6:30 p.m.) and a Tribal Toolbox workshop on Aug. 1 (10 a.m.–1 p.m.). The housing committee continues a feasibility study to identify land for building.
The Hayward Lakes Visitors & Convention Bureau submitted a written report showing a record year for business sales in 2023 but noted first-quarter room tax receipts for 2024 were expected to be low due to a lack of snow. Sherry Beckman announced her retirement and the committee was informed she will be replaced by Mindy Simons.
Ann Larson provided library updates for Weiss and Winter libraries. Tom Duffy reported strong Birkie registrations and that Lumberjack Fest is selling well; the Telemark pentathlon Grand Opening is set for August. Chair John Righeimer read a report from Ms. LaReau documenting record ATV tourism attendance over the Fourth of July holiday.
