The Riceville Community School District Board of Education approved a package of routine personnel, policy and program items at its meeting on Aug. 18, 2025.
The board approved the agenda at 6:30 p.m. (motion by Hale, seconded by Eastman; 4 ayes). Later votes were recorded as unanimous (Eastman, Hale, Guertin, McCarthy and Fox — all aye) unless otherwise noted. The board approved personnel contracts including Hope Nightengale as cheer coach and paras Gabe Mueller and Keri Pietan (roll call unanimous). The board accepted the resignation of para Rachel Pickar (motion by Eastman, seconded by McCarthy; roll call unanimous). The board also approved volunteer and substitute contracts for individuals supporting speech, music, volleyball and football programs.
Board members approved a slate of policy readings. The board approved the second reading of policies 501.1–503.7E2 (5 ayes). The board approved several fundraisers — Middle School Lighthouse Wacha Wicks candles, homecoming clothing (Business Class), Book Blast (elementary), a farmers-market fundraiser for the kitchen, greenery sales and Butter Braids for music parents, Clubhouse Choice and an Easter Egg delivery fundraiser for Speech — and approved field trips including Otter Creek and Sunshine Discovery for first grade and a 9th-grade biology trip to Hayden Prairie. The board approved an agreement with Western Governors University and adopted the substitute list for the 2025–26 school year. The board voted to table a vehicle purchase. The board set its next meeting for Sept. 15, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. and adjourned at 8:06 p.m.
