The Milton Board of Civil Authority on June 22 reviewed procedures for property tax assessment appeals and discussed recent statewide guidance affecting communications-property assessments.
Kristin Beers, Milton town clerk, said she emailed the town’s Rules of Procedure for tax appeal hearings and noted that the Assessor’s office is holding grievance hearings on Thursday, June 25; the town may receive a small number of appeals to the BCA. Beers explained that a statewide change in assessment for communications properties means assessors and local BCAs have been advised to deny communications-property requests so the state, after due process, will handle those appeals.
Board members agreed not to set a hearing schedule in advance; instead the BCA will arrange dates after it knows how many appeals, if any, are filed. Beers will notify members by email when scheduling is needed. A brief discussion followed about how the communications-property process might play out, but no formal motions were recorded on the item.
The board’s next steps are administrative: monitor appeal filings and schedule BCA hearings only when appeals are received.
