The Center City Council voted unanimously to grant variances allowing construction of a rear deck at 140 North Main Street, approving Resolution 2025-12-02-B at its Dec. 2 meeting.
The resolution authorizes a variance of 24 feet to reduce the required 50-foot riparian rear-yard setback to 26 feet and a variance of 30 feet to reduce the required 30-foot bluff setback to zero feet so the deck can be built on the rear of an existing single-family dwelling. Mayor Jill Behnke said there were no public objections at the hearing and the Planning Commission had unanimously recommended approval subject to conditions. Councilmember Lloyd Vetter said he visited the site and Councilmember Sally Swanson reported that neighborhood support was expressed and that the deck had already been constructed before the variance was approved.
Motion to approve the variances with conditions was made by Councilmember Lloyd Vetter and seconded by Councilmember Sally Swanson; the vote was recorded Ayes-5, Nays-0.
The Council did not specify the effective date beyond the standard condition that required title and other conditions be met prior to final city approval. Follow-up and verification of conditions will occur through the Planning Commission and city staff.
