Caledonia — The Caledonia City Council on March 24 approved purchases for the city’s Sewer Department intended to improve maintenance capability and safety. Public Works/Zoning Director Casey Klug presented two quotes: a pipe threader from DSG for $4,248.90 to replace manual valve-exercising tools and enhance worker safety, and a sewer camera from Utility Logic for $10,560 to televise sewer lines in-house.
Klug told the council that contracting sewer television typically costs the city about $300 per job, and that owning the camera could allow the city to avoid repeated contract fees over time. Member Bob Klug moved to approve the purchases; Member David Fitzpatrick seconded the motion and the council approved it unanimously.
The council recorded that the equipment purchase is intended for regular maintenance and that the camera should reduce future contracted-service expenses. No financing source beyond regular departmental funds was specified in the meeting record.
Staff will proceed with the purchases as approved. The council’s next regular meeting is April 14, 2025.
