Council hears SBR wastewater treatment plant facility plan update; IDOT bridge survey scheduled

The Red Oak City Council received an update on the Facility Plan Revision for the SBR wastewater treatment plant from Jeff Godwin of Snyders & Associates during its Sept. 16 meeting. The presentation provided informational detail on the plant’s facility plan revision; council members did not take formal action on the item.

Administration reported several transportation and infrastructure items. An IDOT field survey is scheduled for the Red Oak Creek Bridge Replacement project with a target year of 2026. Staff reported a Highway 34 update noting the north side of the highway is opening while 8th Street will be closed as part of ongoing work. Updates were also provided on BNSF bridges and Bluegrass Road; the minutes record questions about a street department replacement building and an insurance settlement that will require further follow up.

Mayor Shawnna L. Silvius and councilmembers discussed community events and department activities, and Councilperson John Haidsiak reported a conversation with Bill Drey, Park & Tree Chair, about the possibility of constructing a shelter over the Freedom Rock. No public comments were recorded on the facility plan or infrastructure items, and the council did not vote on these reports.

The council noted no formal action was taken on work session items previously discussed. The administration and council identified topics for upcoming agendas, including parking ordinance amendments, building permit fees and recycling and garbage matters; staff will bring follow-up information to future meetings.
