The Red Oak City Council met in special session Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at 10:45 a.m. in the conference room of the Red Oak Public Library and voted to go into a closed session under Iowa Code Section 21.5(i) to evaluate the professional competency of an individual who requested the closed session. Mayor Shawnna L. Silvius called the meeting to order and recorded Councilpersons Brian Bills, Tim Fridolph, John Haidsiak and Adam Hietbrink present; Councilperson Sharon Bradley was absent.
Councilperson Adam Hietbrink moved to approve the meeting agenda, and Councilperson John Haidsiak seconded; the roll-call vote recorded four ayes and the motion carried. Later, Councilperson Tim Fridolph moved, seconded by Councilperson Hietbrink, that the council enter a closed session pursuant to Iowa Code Section 21.5(i) "to evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance or discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual's reputation and that individual requests a closed session." The motion carried on a roll-call vote of four ayes, no nays.
The council entered closed session at 10:53 a.m. and took two recorded breaks during the session, from 12:00–12:04 p.m. and from 1:11–1:30 p.m. At 1:45 p.m., Councilperson Adam Hietbrink moved and Councilperson Brian Bills seconded a motion to exit closed session; the roll-call vote again recorded four ayes and no nays. The meeting record states that no formal action was taken on items discussed during the closed session.
Councilperson John Haidsiak then moved to adjourn, seconded by Councilperson Hietbrink; the motion carried by roll call and the meeting adjourned at 1:46 p.m. The meeting minutes were attested by Mayor Shawnna L. Silvius and Tim Fridolph, Mayor Pro Tem.
