Canton council OKs backhoe tire purchase, records equipment sales and appoints animal control officer

The Canton City Council on Sept. 11 authorized several operational and personnel items. The council approved purchasing front and rear tires for the city backhoe from Bauer Built of Preston at an estimated $2,270 plus installation, with the expense to come from the remaining equipment budget and the remainder from the streets repair and maintenance budget (motion by Mayor Nordsving, seconded by Jason Magnuson; motion carried).
Clerk Anne Koliha reported that the city’s old snowplow truck was sold to the City of Aitkin. Public Works (Jim Davis) said crews will repair a water leak along Prairie Avenue and install the last spare mixer at the sewer plant. Davis also reported the Fire Department has begun discussions about purchasing a rescue pumper and is looking to fund that purchase from the fireman relief fund rather than general city funds.
On personnel matters the council appointed Roman Yoder as Canton’s Animal Control Officer (motion by Mayor Nordsving, seconded by Jen Dowling); the council agreed to allow compensation of $10 per nuisance animal trapped and removed. The meeting adjourned at 6:47 p.m.
