Canton council approves liquor license, fireworks and Main Street closure for fall and winter events

Council approved a temporary liquor license for Oct. 26, a fireworks display and Main Street closure for the Dec. 7 Lighted Parade, and on the consent agenda waived Town Hall rental fees for an Oct. 8 blood drive.
At its Sept. 11 meeting the Canton City Council approved several event-related items: a temporary liquor license for the Canton Community Association on Oct. 26; authorization for a fireworks display following the Lighted Parade on Dec. 7; and a temporary closure of Main Street for the Santa Day Lighted Parade, Clerk Anne Koliha said.
The consent agenda, which the council approved earlier in the meeting, included a waiver of the Town Hall rental fee for an American Red Cross blood drive scheduled for Oct. 8. Kristy Ziegler moved to approve the temporary liquor license; Jen Dowling seconded and the motion carried. Jason Magnuson moved approval of the fireworks display (seconded by Jen Dowling) and the council also approved the street closure (motion by Kristy Ziegler, seconded by Randy Gossman); all motions carried.
Council did not place additional conditions on the permits during the meeting. The approvals clear the way for the fall blood drive, the Oct. 26 community event and the city’s Dec. 7 Lighted Parade.
