Canton clerk reports WWTF permitting work with MPCA; joint meeting previews $8.94M school bond vote

Koliha said consultant WHKS submitted information to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) regarding the wastewater treatment facilitys new nitrogen load limits and that MPCA has reviewed that submission. "Now we continue to work with WHKS and MPCA on compliance schedules and variance requests for all new load limits," Koliha said, according to the minutes. The minutes do not specify deadlines or the terms of any potential variance request.
Koliha also told the council that AcenTek plans a fiber-optic installation in Canton in summer 2025 and that she attended a joint meeting with the Mabel City Council and the Mabel-Canton School Board. She summarized topics from that joint meeting — including street projects, a proposed school solar-field project and consideration of a four-day school week — and said the school district plans a bond referendum for $8.94 million on April 8, 2025; she said a website will be available to show how the bond would affect property taxes.
Public Works matters were discussed: Mayor Josh Nordsving and staff will prepare the annual biosolids report and develop an insulation plan for the Fire Hall above the doors, and staff are preparing for the upcoming Santa Days event. Koliha also reported the Fire Department will donate outdated equipment and turnout gear to Midwest Missions for use abroad.
