The Reinbeck City Council voted April 20 to reset the FY2027 budget public hearing to April 29, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., after a change in a local newspaper’s publication schedule prevented the city from meeting the required four-day public notice.
Council member Bueghly moved to reschedule the hearing, Pease seconded, and the motion passed with four ayes; council member Trepp was absent. City officials said the Grundy Register was bought by a new company that moved its publication day from Thursday to Friday, which left insufficient time to publish the legally required notice in advance of the original hearing date.
The council’s action places the hearing one week later and preserves the city’s compliance with notice requirements. The hearing will be held in council chambers at the scheduled time on April 29, and the council record shows the change was made by formal motion during the April 20 meeting.
Next steps: staff will publish the new hearing notice and prepare the FY2027 budget packet for public review ahead of the April 29 meeting.
