Reinbeck council approves auditor contract, Park Board Venmo, parking changes and routine appointments

During its Feb. 2 regular meeting, the Reinbeck City Council approved a set of routine administrative and operational actions including an audit contract, fundraising account approval for the Park Board, code-amendment processes for parking, and several appointments.
Audit contract: The council approved hiring Gronewold, Bell, Kyhnn & Co. P.C. to perform the city's FY2026 annual examination after the Auditor of State declined to respond to the RFP; the firm proposed a maximum cost of $5,250. Wambold moved to approve the contract; Trepp seconded. The motion passed with five ayes.
Park Board Venmo: Janelle Boldt requested that the Park Board set up a Venmo account at Lincoln Savings Bank to collect pickleball-court fundraising contributions; the account will be held separately and transferred to the city's Gift & Trust Fund. Bueghly moved to approve; Johnson seconded. Vote: five ayes.
Parking and enforcement changes: The council authorized the process to amend Reinbeck City Code 69.11 to install a 20-minute parking sign at 423 Main Street for patient parking (Johnson moved; Bueghly seconded; five ayes). The council also moved to begin code amendments to raise snow-violation parking fines to $50 and increase the penalty for non-payment to $10 (Wambold moved; Trepp seconded; five ayes). City Administrator Julie Wilkerson will review existing municipal code language regarding motel parking.
Contracts and scheduling: The council agreed to continue contracting with Precision Lawn Care for 2026 mowing and spraying at current rates (Wambold moved; Pease seconded; five ayes). Council set the Property Tax Levy Hearing for April 6, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. and a Budget Amendment Hearing for March 2, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. The council also scheduled a single spring clean-up day for April 18, 2026 with a rain date of April 25, 2026.
Appointments and personnel: Council approved the appointment of Chris Bunz to the Cemetery Board and Steve Kauffman to the Memorial Building Board, accepted the resignation of Darren Trunck from the Reinbeck Community Development Board, and appointed Lydia Robertson to that board; motions carried with five ayes.
The meeting closed with unanimous votes on these routine items and adjourned at 7:39 p.m.
