Deputy Mayor Floria reports 2,757 calls, arrest after stolen U-Haul stop on Union Avenue

Deputy Mayor Floria reported to the meeting that city police handled 2,757 calls for service and made 95 arrests during the two-week reporting period. "Our police were very active. We had 2,757 calls for service," Floria said.

Floria said officers conducted 1,167 directed patrols as part of the period’s enforcement work and highlighted traffic-enforcement results: two citations to ensure oversized trucks use designated streets, 35 red-light tickets and 188 speed-related tickets. "Our speed initiative, once again, trying to control speed in our community, we issued 188 tickets in that 2-week period," she said.

As a case highlight, Floria described a June 16 motor-vehicle stop in the area of Union Avenue. "Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Union Avenue for a U-Haul confirmed stolen out of Hillside," she said. The driver was detained without incident and placed under arrest; searches of both suspects and the vehicle yielded negative results, and the vehicle was recovered and turned over to Susquehanna Towing. Floria said the driver was charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle.
