The Hoyt Lakes City Council approved hiring Sher Sweeney as a part-time administrative clerk after the personnel committee recommended her following interviews.
The council voted to accept the committee’s recommendation in a voice vote after Councelor Matson moved to approve and Councelor Grahams seconded; Mayor Scott declared the motion carried. The council directed staff to complete standard employment steps, including a background check.
The personnel committee reported that Sweeney was chosen from six applicants. Councelor Matson said the committee valued Sweeney’s decades of experience in payroll, accounting and IT and that her background in election work would be useful in an election year. "We felt that she ... could easily step into the position and complete the job duties," Matson said.
City Administrator Wyberg and interview panel members Jill Dean, Tammy and Betsy participated in the hiring process and said the part-time position will allow cross-training so payroll and billing duties can continue when staff are absent. The council noted the position had been vacant since 2020 and that the role is intended to ensure continuity for payroll processing and other administrative functions.
Council discussion confirmed the compensation range discussed during the meeting was "between 20 and 25 dependent on experience." The transcript did not specify whether that range referred to dollars per hour or annual salary; councilors stated the amount was included in the adopted budget.
The council did not record a roll-call tally; the motion passed by voice vote with no opposition announced. The council instructed staff to complete hiring steps and proceed with onboarding.
The council adjourned following the hiring vote.
