County manager says new North Landfill is 'state of the art' and expects operations to begin Aug. 5

County manager Lorenda told the Larimer County Board on June 23, 2026, that the county held a ribbon cutting last week for the new North Landfill and that the facility appears "state of the art." She said the landfill is expected to begin production on Aug. 5, 2026, and congratulated Solid Waste Director Dwayne Penny and his team for completing the project.
"We had the honor last week of doing the ribbon cutting at the new North Landfill," Lorenda said. "The facility is state of the art. It's amazing. It'll go into production it looks like August 5th and so that will be a very big day for our community." She added that the county will continue related work on the transfer station and the closure of the existing landfill cell.
Lorenda also summarized recent outreach and community events: she noted attending the Harvard Kennedy School program in Cambridge, participating in local Juneteenth events and staffing a Larimer County booth at the Loveland Pride celebration. She said county staff used the events to share information about county services, including the budget-explorer tool.
Chair Jody Shadegg McNally thanked county staff and the Solid Waste team for their work. The board adjourned at 9:19 a.m.
