During the March 23, 2026 annual meeting, the Western Grant Ambulance District board reviewed a North Dakota Attorney General interpretation of the North Dakota Century Code and legal descriptions for Grant, Adams and Hettinger counties. After discussion, Julie Goeres, board member, moved and Dennis Rivinius, board member, seconded a motion to proceed with annexation procedures to add areas within the Western Grant Ambulance service that are not currently part of the district; the motion carried on a 7-0 roll-call vote.
The board noted attached legal descriptions for the three counties and directed staff to begin the annexation process. The board also assigned outreach to the hospital board (meeting set for March 31, 2026) to request support for both the levy and annexation initiatives. The district did not adopt final annexation ordinances at the meeting; it authorized staff to initiate the procedural steps identified in the Attorney General’s guidance.
