At its March 23, 2026 annual meeting in New Leipzig, the Western Grant Ambulance District board voted to begin the procedure to place a 15-mill levy request before voters at the next general election. Jenna Kilzer, board member, moved the measure and Julie Goeres, board member, seconded; a roll-call vote recorded seven ayes and the motion carried.
Treasurer Julie Levorsen reported a checking account balance of $4,794.98 and presented bills including $86.52 to GS Publishing LLC for meeting notices. The board approved the treasurer's report and payment of bills in a separate motion moved by Dennis Rivinius and seconded by Jenna Kilzer.
Board members said they reviewed historical financial data during discussion before moving forward with the levy procedure. The board also assigned outreach tasks: Julie Goeres, Tara Gaugler and Brian Richardson will meet with the local hospital board on March 31, 2026 to seek support for the levy effort.
The board did not set the exact ballot language at the meeting; members directed staff to pursue procedural steps that will lead to placement of the question on the ballot at the next general election. The district’s next regular meeting is scheduled for April 22, 2026, where the board may receive updates on levy procedural steps and community outreach.
