Red Feather Lakes coalition honored for landscape-scale wildfire defense

Heidi Pruitt described the project as “implementing the priorities of the community Wildfire Protection Plans developed by four mountain communities” and highlighted partnerships among Glacier View Fire Protection District, Crystal Lakes Fire Protection District, Poudre Canyon Fire Protection District and the Cherokee Meadows Road Association, along with the Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed and the Office of Emergency Management.
Commissioner Jody McDevitt praised the volunteer fire protection districts and local residents for building trust, demonstrating “boots on the ground” community leadership, and working across jurisdictional boundaries to carry out landscape-scale mitigation that improves forest health and public safety.
Project partners introduced themselves at the ceremony: Josh Roberts (Larimer County mitigation coordinator); Kelly Spongberg and Rachel Owenby (Crystal Lakes); Daniel Bowker (forest program director, Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed); Kaia (home ignition zone mitigation assistance program specialist, Larimer County Conservation Corps); Thomas Shields (forest crew program coordinator, Larimer County Conservation Corps); Brad (Larimer County Office of Emergency Management); and volunteer Henry Headswick. Speakers emphasized front-porch-to-forest planning, community education and the goal of long-term resilience; the event was an awards recognition and did not include formal county action or funding commitments.
