Trustees of the Village of Denton approved $12,000 in community grant awards on Jan. 6, 2025, after amending an initial allocation to remove a nonlocal recipient.
The board considered five applications against a $12,000 budget. Trustee Trent Wheatley moved to approve awards; after discussion noting that the American Cancer Society is not a local Denton nonprofit, trustees amended the allocations and carried the motion. The final grants are: Dollars for Scholars $1,500; DCAC $2,500; Sunnyside Cemetery $5,000; Denton Community Historical Society $3,000.
The awards will be paid from Denton Keno community betterment funds. Trustees discussed local eligibility during the vote; the board’s records show the original motion was amended on the floor to reflect local-only nonprofit recipients.
Next steps: the clerk will process award documentation and disbursements in accordance with village procedures. There was no public comment recorded on the grants during the meeting.
