Denton trustees review Linda’s Retirement plat review, 2024–25 budget priorities and refer water/sewer fee ordinance to attorney

At the July 8 meeting, the Village of Denton Board of Trustees heard multiple governance updates: a planning review of the Linda’s Retirement subdivision, a list of proposed capital projects for the 2024–25 budget, and a consensus directive to the village attorney to research a water and sewer service-line fee ordinance.
Chair Joe Hobelman summarized a Zoom review with Craig Bennet of Miller & Associates: Bennet will send a final review letter to the Linda’s Retirement developer identifying items that must be addressed before the plat can proceed to the planning commission. Hobelman said the developers indicated they would not pursue annexation if the subdivision could not proceed and that they plan to resubmit zoning requests after receiving the review.
Trustees discussed potential 2024–25 capital budget items and estimated costs: street striping ($20,000), playground upgrades ($75,000–$100,000), a sewer expansion (estimated $1.2 million), and a spreader attachment (noted $5,000). The board also discussed park maintenance needs and Trustee Amanda Fangmeier suggested recruiting community volunteers to help with upkeep; maintenance staffer Blackledge may add part-time hours as needed.
On utilities policy, trustees reached consensus to have the village attorney draft or research an ordinance implementing a fee for water and sewer service lines, including to cover vacant properties inside town limits. The board did not set a timeline for the attorney’s work or for return of a draft ordinance to the trustees.
Trustee filing deadlines were noted: incumbent candidates must file by July 15, 2024; non-incumbent candidates by August 1, 2024. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
