Trustees discussed a proposed solar-resilience project for Denton’s water system at their July 8 meeting but took no formal vote.
Jim Pearson presented options for a two-phase installation: erect solar racking first (quoted at about $8,000) and complete wiring in a second phase. Total project costs were estimated at $30,000–$35,000; adding battery storage would raise the cost by roughly $10,000. Pearson noted the solar panels carry a 25-year warranty.
Board members expressed interest in exploring the project further. The board reached consensus to involve University of Nebraska–Lincoln students to study Denton’s system as an example for other communities; the study would provide additional detail on siting, equipment and costs. No formal funding or contract was approved during the meeting.
Next steps: staff and trustees will await a study and any formal cost estimates before placing the project on a future agenda for potential budgeting or bids.
