Denton trustees approve 2024–25 budget, set $101,727.20 property tax request

Chair Joe Hobelman called the Village of Denton Board of Trustees to order Sept. 19 at 6:45 p.m. and the trustees moved to open a public hearing on the proposed 2024–25 budget. Trustee John Juricek made the opening motion, Trustee Trent Wheatley seconded and the motion carried.
Carmen Stanely of HBE presented the village's financials and reminded the board that tax revenue cannot be used to pay utility funds; she said transfers from keno funds are currently supporting water and sewer operations. No members of the public offered comment during the hearing.
After procedural hearings and motions to exceed the budget limit by an additional 1% of restricted funds and to increase the tax request by 2.5%, the board moved to adopt final actions on the budget. Trustee Juricek moved to pass Resolution 24‑9‑1, establishing levy authority; Trustee Wheatley seconded and the motion carried. The board then voted unanimously to approve the 2024–25 fiscal year budget.
Trustee Amanda Fangmeier moved to set a property tax request of $101,727.20 and a levy of 0.482685; the motion was seconded and approved unanimously. The published breakdown presented during the hearing showed $68,727.20 for non‑bond purposes and $33,000 required for the water bond.
