Highland council clears summer events: farmers market, Schweizerfest parade road closure and monthly car cruises

The Highland City Council unanimously approved a slate of summer-event permits and related road-closure resolutions at its Feb. 3 meeting.
Lucas Pinsker, Sports, Leisure & Facilities Manager, requested permission to operate the 2025 Highland Farmers’ Markets on Tuesday nights at Highland Square. Councilwoman Bellm moved approval and the council voted aye on a unanimous roll call.
Russell Huelsmann, representing the Rusty Rodz Car Club, requested use of the streets around the downtown square for car cruises on the last Saturday of each month from May through October. Councilman Napper moved approval of the cruise-ins per the special events application; the council voted unanimously to grant the request.
Separately, the council approved two resolutions to temporarily close portions of IL Route 160 for city events. Bill #25-12 approved a temporary closure from Walnut Street to Washington Street, and Bill #25-13 approved a temporary closure from Old Trenton Road to Cypress Street to accommodate the Schweizerfest parade. Both resolutions passed by unanimous roll-call votes.
All event permits and road-closure resolutions were recorded on the meeting agenda and carried by unanimous votes. The minutes do not record conditions attached to the approvals or any public opposition during the recorded discussion.
