Highland council approves $45,600 in hotel‑motel tax grants

The Highland City Council voted unanimously on March 3 to approve Bill #25‑25/Resolution #25‑03‑3167, allocating $45,600 in hotel/motel tax revenue to community requests for 2025.
Mayor Kevin Hemann said Director Jackie Heimburger and Coordinator Mallord Hubbard reviewed the applications and reduced the recommended awards because the city saw lower lodging revenue while a local hotel undergoes remodeling. Councilwoman Barbara Bellm moved the resolution; Councilman Frey seconded. Roll call vote: Councilmembers Sloan, Frey, Bellm and Napper voted aye.
The allocation funds a range of local requests; the council and staff noted the total available was smaller this year due to the hotel remodel. No individual award amounts or recipient organizations were read into the record during the motion. The council did not place additional conditions on the awards during the vote.
Council members did not request further changes but agreed staff would continue to work with applicants if adjustments were needed because of revenue variances. The council moved on to other agenda items after the motion carried.
