Council hears YMCA proposal to run summer day camp at Koby Park

The YMCA offered a $1,000 cash donation for park use and a discounted rate of $10 per child for Windsor Heights residents, AJ said, and described tentative daily hours of roughly 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Staff and YMCA representatives noted they are flexible on start times to avoid conflicts with early-morning yoga and other scheduled uses of the community center.
Joelle, speaking for the YMCA, said the organization has operated day camps since the early 1990s and that typical site attendance ranges from about 40 to 75 children depending on location. "We usually cap at 60 when we put out marketing information," Joelle said, noting that some sites are smaller and operate with fewer children.
Council members and staff discussed operational issues: maintaining public access to playground space during camp hours, rotating camp activities across grassy areas to reduce wear, coordinating with ball-diamond and pavilion rentals, and using the community center as a rain-date location. YMCA representatives confirmed they carry liability insurance and will provide documentation if requested.
Council asked staff to confirm whether Windsor Heights residents could have an early-registration window or other priority access in the enrollment process. AJ said staff would "take that question back" and report the answer; the group indicated broad support to proceed with a draft agreement and expected to consider a formal authorization at the next council meeting.
