Julio Pardo, president of CSEA Chapter 187, used the public-comment period at the June 18 board meeting to press the East Side Union High School District to review classified staffing and pay practices.
Pardo said many classified employees remain "still concerned" that their pay "never were even close to what their numbers were before" the Great Recession, and he urged administrators and trustees to examine whether positions eliminated in recent years should be restored. He also criticized the financial pressures facing staff who commute long distances and noted litigation pressures in special education, saying some lawyers are "ambulance chasers in many ways."
"I really do hope that this district will continue to not only serve the students, but be fair to all their employees," Pardo said. The board acknowledged his remarks and wished attendees a good summer; no formal action was taken in response to the comment.
Pardo identified himself at the podium as "Julio Pardo, President Chapter 187 CSEA."
