Board amends code to add Class F liquor license for new Al's Hot Dog and Pizza; trustee raises late-hour concern

The Long Grove board voted to amend village code to add an extra Class F on-premises liquor license to accommodate Al’s Hot Dog and Pizza, an applicant-owned restaurant seeking to serve beer and wine with meals.
Staff explained that a Class F license allows service of beer and wine when meals are served and that the village must adjust its code to add an additional slot for the applicants, including owner Mario Weber. Trustees praised Weber’s track record at his other restaurant and welcomed new business.
Trustee Chris said he supported approval but voiced a reservation about allowing alcohol sales until midnight given limited police enforcement after 11 p.m. "I think it's a little bit different to go in at 11 o'clock, eat a quick hot dog, slam a couple beers, and get into your car," Chris said, noting the public-safety concern. Staff and trustees noted most village licenses are set to midnight and that licenses and hours can be modified if problems arise.
The board moved and seconded the ordinance and passed it by roll call; trustees recorded their votes and the motion carried. Trustees asked staff to monitor late-hour operations and revisit hours or enforcement if community concerns emerge.
The ordinance change will allow the new business to apply for the Class F license and serve beer and wine consistent with village code.
