Board authorizes counsel to file answer and motion to dismiss in Lori Miles suit
Summary
Following an executive session, the Richmond County board authorized legal counsel to file an answer and motion to dismiss in the Lori Miles lawsuit and said the sheriff's legal counsel will file the documents and they should appear on the public docket shortly.
After returning from executive session the Richmond County Board voted to authorize legal counsel to file an answer and motion to dismiss in substantially the same form as the version circulated during the closed session. The motion to authorize filing was made and carried in open session.
A committee member moved that the county’s legal counsel file the answer and motion to dismiss “in substantially similar form as the version that was circulated at in the executive session meeting,” and the board approved the action. The board also voted to execute an affidavit of compliance with open meetings requirements before taking the vote.
A speaker who addressed the public said the sheriff’s legal counsel will file the answer and motion to dismiss and expected the filing to be submitted the next day and to appear on Peachcourt (the public docket), where members of the public can view the documents. The board instructed counsel to proceed and recorded the authorization in open session.
