Commission reports Broadbent flagpole added to local register; hangar nomination advances to state review

At the June 24 meeting, staff reported three notable preservation updates for Boulder City.
The city council adopted a local-register listing for the Broadbent flagpole; staff said they are working on a July 4 ceremony and have reached out to the American Legion to arrange raising a 49-star American flag to mark the dedication. "Once I have more information, I will share that with the commission," staff said.
The Board of Museum and History approved the hangar nomination for submission to the National Register keeper in Washington, D.C.; State Historic Preservation Office staff are incorporating board edits and will notify the city once the nomination is sent.
Commissioners also discussed communications and outreach: Commissioner Baker said he will continue contributing columns to Boulder City magazine and prefers a commission-produced quarterly, and members proposed agenda items including a potential Nevada Veterans Museum at the old airplane hangar (Commissioner Baker said he has formed a 501(c)(3) called Nevada Veterans Museum). A commissioner asked staff to check with the city attorney about any conflict of interest related to a commissioner leading a nonprofit tied to a subject under commission discussion; staff said they would follow up.
Other items noted in the meeting: progress on World War Heritage Cities material for the city website, and an update that the Coffee Cup sign is being refurbished for reinstallation. No formal votes were taken on these items; they were provided as informational updates and potential future agenda items.
