Lamar council certifies June 13 runoff, swears in Shade Williams as District B council member

The Lamar City Council on June 22 completed the canvass of the June 13 runoff election and formally swore in Shade Williams as council member for District B. According to the county cumulative results read into the record by the city clerk, Williams received 100 total votes and Joe Compion received 49.
After the clerk read absentee, early and election‑day subtotals, the council moved and approved canvassing the election and declaring Williams the winner. Mayor Bell administered the oath of office. Williams addressed the council and audience, thanked donors, endorsers, family and voters, and said she would do her due diligence on behalf of Lamar residents.
The canvass and oath were handled early in the meeting after the council agreed to move item 81 forward on the agenda. Mayor Bell outlined the customary swearing procedure and invited Williams to give brief introductory remarks immediately following the oath. Williams asked residents not to give up and said the election marks a new chapter in which she intends to work for the city and her children’s future.
No litigation or formal contest of the canvass was recorded during the meeting. The action was recorded on the public docket as Resolution R‑2026‑000014 (canvass of election results).
