Hills council approves park tree removal and 2026 sealcoat work

The Hills City Council approved two maintenance contracts and a consent agenda vote during its March 9 meeting at the Hills Fire Station.
Council Member Knebel moved to approve the consent agenda, which included the March 9 meeting agenda, the Feb. 23 minutes, the scheduled list of claims, the treasurer’s report and the budget report; Council Member Willette seconded. The motion passed on a 5-0 vote.
On a separate item, Council Member Hudachek moved to approve Outdoor Pros estimate #3556 to remove a tree from Hills City Park; Council Member Rummelhart seconded. The motion carried, 5-0. Shortly afterward, Council Member Knebel moved to approve LL Pelling’s sealcoat work proposal for 2026; Council Member Hudachek seconded. That motion also passed unanimously.
There were no public comments. The minutes record no reports from the mayor, city attorney, city administrator, maintenance, fire department, water or sewer departments.
During council comments, Council Member Knebel said she had seen a news article about Independence obtaining bulletproof vests and suggested Hills look into acquiring vests. Council Member Henderson noted that “the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department spent 20 minutes on speed control in February” and said the city needs more speed enforcement.
The meeting adjourned at 7:29 PM.
