Hills council approves band‑shell staining contract, sets budget session and replaces damaged speed sign

The Hills City Council voted unanimously on Jan. 26 to approve Resolution 2026‑02, accepting a quote from Mended Rose Construction to stain the band shell at Hills City Park.
Maintenance/Fire Chief Pantel presented the vendor quote and recommended tabling while obtaining additional bids; Councilmember Hudachek noted Mended Rose Construction had good reviews. After discussion, Hudachek moved to approve Resolution 2026‑02 and Councilmember Rummelhart seconded; the roll‑call vote showed Ayes: Knebel, Willette, Hudachek, Henderson, Rummelhart and the motion carried.
The vote followed remarks from Mayor Tim Kemp that the city had difficulties obtaining quotes the prior year and that, after approval, some vendors had been slow to schedule work. The council also scheduled a budget session for Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026, at 5:15 PM at the Hills Fire Station (Hudachek moved; Knebel seconded; Ayes: 5).
Earlier in the meeting the council approved the consent agenda (agenda, Jan. 12, 2026 minutes, scheduled list of claims, and receipts from Jan. 9–22, 2026) on a motion by Councilmember Rummelhart and second by Councilmember Henderson (Ayes: 5).
In maintenance updates, Chief Pantel reported that wind had irreparably damaged the solar speed radar sign on Main Street entering Hills. The council agreed to a temporary replacement using a spare solar speed radar sign from the former school site.
Council comments closed out routine business: Hudachek said curbs would need repainting in spring, and Henderson asked about selecting bands for the summer Music in the Park series; Mayor Kemp said he was contacting bands and that bands had reached out to the city. The council adjourned at 7:45 PM.
