Suffield commission continues planning for new 5K route, will coordinate with police

Director Peter Leclerc said the commission is still finalizing a new 5K road race route and that the course must be remeasured to determine turn locations and to ensure the distance is correct.
Leclerc said he would like the race to start at the front of McAlister. Vice Chairman Bill Boucher expressed concern about runners turning into oncoming participants and said he would take measurements from several possible starting points to find the required distance. Bill Boucher also said he would contact the police chief to arrange a meeting between staff and law enforcement to review street closures, safety logistics and the proposed route.
Commissioners discussed alternate starting locations and how to increase the route distance if needed. No formal vote or road-closure authorization was taken; the item remains in planning and will proceed after measurements and police coordination.
