"I am proposing to increase the annual landfill permit fees from $25 to $50 in order to address rising disposal costs and shift the financial burden from taxpayers who do not use the landfill to those who do," Corbert said. He told the board the increase would help the Town break even while keeping permit fees lower than neighboring municipalities.
Selectmen asked several questions about the effect on residents and whether the increase would be phased in. Although some members expressed concern about doubling the fee, the discussion generally reflected support for addressing the cost shift. The board did not vote on the proposal; members directed staff to place the item on the agenda for the next meeting and required a public hearing before any change would be adopted.
Next steps: the board will hold a public hearing and consider the proposed fee increase at a future meeting before any formal action is taken.
