Suffield to install new bandstand on town green; Rotary eyes July 3 grand opening

Peter Leclerc, director of the Suffield Parks & Recreation Commission, said the new bandstand for the town green is on schedule to be placed during the first week of June and that construction is expected to be finished by the end of June.
Leclerc told commissioners that some finishing work, including an Americans with Disabilities Act access route, cannot be completed until the structure is on its foundation because precise measurements are needed. "We are still on schedule to have the bandstand installed on the 1st week of June and to have all construction completed by the end of June," he said during the meeting.
Commission Chair Brian Casinghino praised volunteer and contractor work on the project. The Rotary Club, which helped fund the bandstand, is waiting to confirm a date for a grand-opening ceremony and is tentatively considering July 3, the 50th anniversary of the original bandstand opening. The commission noted that donations are being accepted at the Rotary Foundation to support the project.
The commission did not vote on additional funding at the meeting. The next steps are the physical installation, post-installation inspections, completion of ADA access, and coordination with the Rotary on a final grand-opening date.
