Superintendent Mary Anne Butler introduced Jeffrey Parkinson as the new principal of Stonington Middle School at the Aug. 15 special meeting; Parkinson thanked the administration and said he was “excited to be back home.”
Butler updated the board on the relocation of the middle school and the district office, noted the anticipated costs to install monitors in the middle-school building, and discussed research the district has reviewed about school start times. She said the district remains obligated to provide transportation to other schools and that new school start times and bus routes would be posted by the end of next week. Butler also said new state law allows the board to set a graduation date provided the calendar contains 180 school days, and she set graduation for Friday, June 13, 2025.
Board members asked about possible savings from bus-company changes and said they would meet with administration and town selectmen to review financial impacts. No formal vote related to relocation or start-time policy was taken at the meeting.
