Suffield Meeting Separately Approves $1.95M Roof and $600K Solar Appropriations for High School

At the May 6 Special Town Meeting, the Town of Suffield approved two separate appropriations for projects at Suffield High School: $1,950,000 for a shingle roof replacement and $600,000 for a photovoltaic installation. Town Clerk Michele Urch presented both motions; each passed by unanimous voice vote.
Eric Remington, business manager for the Board of Education, explained that the items were being re-voted separately because state requirements require each appropriation to be considered on its own rather than as a combined resolution. The minutes state that upon approval of the separate resolutions, the combined resolution adopted by the Town Meeting Feb. 26, 2026 will be rescinded.
Both motions authorize financing by the issuance of general obligation bonds and notes in anticipation of such bonds in amounts not to exceed the respective appropriation totals. No amendments to the resolutions were recorded in the minutes and the votes were recorded as unanimous voice approvals.
The appropriations are listed in the town meeting materials as capital expenditures and will be financed through general obligation borrowing; the full texts of the authorizing resolutions are on file in the Town Clerk’s office.
