Recreation department reports solid summer sign-ups, plans for yard sale and July events

At the June 25 meeting, the Recreation Advisory Committee received the department’s monthly report, which highlighted summer registration numbers, program details and upcoming community events.

Tom reported roughly 369 registrations over the last month and $13,570 in registration fees collected. He noted strong signup numbers for trips and events: 60 for ice skating, 62 for a trip to Wicked Waves, and 59 for a family amusement park trip. "We took in $13,000 — $13,570 of registration fees," Tom said.

Swim program: Tom said the learn-to-swim program currently has 121 registrants compared with 170 last year; he expects numbers to climb through summer session cycles. Pools were cleared for swim with no algae concerns and staff scheduled swim orientations and on-site preparations for programs beginning the week of June 30.

Community events and outreach: Staff reported 42 residences and nine businesses registered for a first-annual townwide yard sale; promotion included door drops and website registration. Beach pilates had strong early attendance with more than 20 people at initial sessions, and staff said interest in complementary amenities (sauna and cold plunge) is growing.

Governance and next steps: Staff noted the Select Board and town manager’s office are reviewing committee charges and may propose amendments; the committee will be asked to review any recommended changes before final adoption by the Select Board. The committee also approved the May 28 minutes by voice vote and adjourned at the meeting’s end.

The department reminded members that July events are set: fireworks on July 2 and the parade on July 4, and logistics for staffing and supplies (porta‑potties, trash totes) have been scheduled.
