Town Manager Kathleen Billings-Pezaris briefed the Selectmen on a proposed public-private partnership agreement with Consolidated Communications (CCI) to expand broadband access in parts of Stonington. The TM said the draft contract closely mirrors agreements used elsewhere and that CCI has been identified as the vendor for upgrades to selected nodes, including remote terminal work to bring internet service to under-served areas.
Selectman Travis Fifield said he had not received the contract before the meeting and asked for time to review; the TM resent the document during the Zoom session and noted that CCI and town consultant Henry were available to answer technical questions. The board discussed timing and language in the contract, including clarifications on extra charges for unexpected site conditions and the scope for North Stonington where a remote terminal still needed definition.
No final vote was taken; Selectmen requested additional review and clarification of contract terms before any formal authorization. The TM said she expected a revised timeline and answers from CCI in the coming weeks.
