Harford County Commission for Women sets resource fair, fundraiser and outreach events

Chair Allison McCord said the commission has a slate of outreach activities planned and that staff would circulate event materials. Coordinator Meg Deem said she is preparing a draft flyer for the June 7 Coffee with the Commissioners at the Screaming Bean and that new name badges for incoming commissioners were ordered. Commissioner Katie Novotny is coordinating the Coffee event as a fundraiser for the commission’s Women Build team, which is registered under the team name “HC4W Nails It!” and is scheduled for June 27. The commission discussed completing the volunteer application required by Habitat for Humanity and a group fundraising target of $4,000 (or $400 per individual).
Planning for a Women’s Resource Fair on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2026, was a major agenda item. Commissioners confirmed the Highland School as the site, with vendors scheduled to set up at 9 a.m. and the commission planning to be on site from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The committee discussed a proposed $25 vendor fee intended to cover cleaning, signage and door-prize gift cards, and noted there may be room for up to about 50 vendors. Meg Deem said county-owned tables and chairs would be available for vendors who do not bring their own; other logistics discussed included soliciting food donations from local grocers and inviting food trucks.
Members assigned roles for outreach and logistics: Linda Stine Flint will coordinate sponsorships and food/beverage donations; Robin Tomechko volunteered for logistics and operations; Erin Flynn will work on vendor outreach and marketing with Meg Deem. Commissioners also discussed outreach to local organizations to invite presenters (for example, Sleep in Heavenly Peace and Fresh Start Furnishings) and community partners to staff resource tables.
The commission set a follow-up committee meeting for ongoing planning and noted its next full meeting is June 22, 2026.
