Sigourney hears from Iowa EDA about potential second façade grant round; BOOST committee highlights signage needs

Council member Iosbaker told the council that representatives from the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) — including Sara Plowman, Jim Thompson and Jim Engle — visited Sigourney on Jan. 30 to discuss how the city could pursue a second round of façade grants. Iosbaker said the visitors identified buildings that could qualify and that the city would serve as the grant applicant and recipient if it chose to pursue the project.
Iosbaker also reported on BOOST committee work from October recommending improvements to city signage; he presented a slideshow showing several sign design options and estimated prices. The council is collecting information and speaking with business owners to gauge interest before deciding whether to apply for grant funds.
No formal motion to apply for a façade grant was made at the Feb. 6 meeting; the item remains an informational discussion and will return if the city elects to proceed.
