Sigourney City Council approves hires, contracts and routine payments; special budget meeting set

Park and Recreation: the council approved hiring Lara Davis as the 2025 Soccer Director at $2,500 for the season (motion by Lentz, second by Iosbaker; vote: Ayes — Clark, Conrad, McLaughlin, Iosbaker, Lentz, Schultz).
The council approved a display ad to recruit Summer 2025 pool staff (manager, assistant manager and lifeguards) to run in the Sigourney News Review and Steve Shettler Media (motion by McLaughlin, second by Conrad; unanimous).
Street and Sanitation: the council approved a proposal from LL Pelling Company for 2025 sealcoat work after Public Works Director Brent Gilliland outlined streets and alleys included in the project (motion by Iosbaker, second by Schultz; unanimous).
The council approved a display ad for the annual spraying agreement (motion by Clark, second by Lentz; unanimous) and approved annual council member remuneration for calendar year 2024 (motion by Schultz, second by Conrad; unanimous).
Human Resources: to avoid loss of vacation accrual while another employee was on sick leave, the council approved paying Public Works Director Brent Gilliland for 40 hours of vacation (motion by Schultz, second by Iosbaker; unanimous).
Accounts payable: separate from the other motions, the council approved accounts payable claims totaling $18,651.04 (motion by McLaughlin, second by Conrad); the motion passed with Ayes from Clark, Conrad, McLaughlin, Iosbaker and Schultz and with Council member Lentz recorded as abstaining because her brother owns Atwood Electric.
Why it matters: these votes cover day‑to‑day municipal services, personnel decisions and maintenance contracts that affect service delivery and the 2025 budget planning process. The Jan. 6 special meeting will give broader community input on next year’s budget.
